On average, 3-star hotels in Colchester cost SEK 1,105 per night, and 4-star hotels in Colchester are SEK 1,545 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Colchester can on average be found for SEK 1,716 per night (based on Booking.com prices).
I liked the town and its history. However, I found the prices in pubs to be excessive, regarding both food and drink. The portion I received in the George was very small, especially considering I'd paid twenty-four pounds for it. It consisted of a tiny piece of fish, three mussels, a little broccoli, and two very small pieces of potato. In the Castle, I paid eighteen ponds fifty for a pint, with pie and mash. The price of a pint in most pubs was what you might expect to pay in London.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

Great weekend destination.
Great weekend destination. Loads of big and little shops, cafes, restaurants and craft ales bars. Great atmosphere in town. On top of this the most amazing castle and wobbly medieval houses and Roman walls something for everyone!!
Town centre easy to walk round and explore and topped off with a fabulous meal at China Chef!

You have to be fit as there is a lot of walking
The hotel was half way up the hill and the nearest bus stops at the top or bottom.
There are many buses which basicly end up at Osbourne road bus station
There are numerous scooters for hire with i phone but i didnt see a main point of distribution just abonded scooters hear and there .
The room was nicely laid out and adequately furnished and the bed very comfortable. Being in an old hotel, in an old part of Colchester the floor retained the period property features!
The staff were great, welcoming and friendly taking the time to find out about us and our reason for staying.
The food however, passed our expectations and we can highly recommend The Green Room restaurant for the food and for the service, my steak was cooked to perfection and my wife enjoyed her fish too. The wine was excellent.
The hotel is in an excellent location, quiet but within walking distance of the town and the castle. The free on-site parking was great. The room was lovely; comfortable bed, great shower, great WiFi and the fridge was a bonus. The best thing however, was the people there. They were so friendly and helpful. It makes all the difference. This is where we stay when we visit family in Colchester. Thank you to everyone at Star Anglia for making our wedding anniversary so special.
The room was giant and the general feel to the
Hotel was amazing! The location was perfect. The only thing I would say is to give more indication on where the George parking is, as the area seems to be a one way system which doesn’t lead you to the high street using google maps but other than that this is defo a spot to hit!!!! We loved it that much we booked a night to stay at the sister hotel for another night (the George hotel).
The hotel was ideally placed for us, being equidistant between the two family groups we were in Colchester to visit.
It was competitively priced, the room and bathroom were clean, the shower was decent and the beds were very comfortable for us. Also, the quality of the breakfast was quite good and at £10 per person, represented good value. And finally, all the members of staff we had contact with were very friendly and helpful.
Comprehensive instructions on location and approach to the hotel were much appreciated. We were shown to our room, which was beautifully appointed and the bed was very comfortable. there were plenty of complimentary drinks and toiletries. The towels were soft and large, the wet room shower was good and the courtyard quiet. Staff were very polite and friendly and we will definately be staying again.
Needs electric ports.
The food in the bar was expensive considering there are loads of places near. We would have eaten at hotel if was cheaper.
Bar didn't have a good choice of beer/larger and again expensive.
The bar/breakfast area the wood was dusty with spider webs just needs a vac
We enjoyed the hotel room, bed was very comfy. The sports bar was great. The dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner served delicious meals. The spa treatments were just right, the swimming pool was lovely. Everything at the Five Lakes Resort was superb, thank you so much.
great location ! the building is very very old but very charming. small hotel in a small town with lots of character. the Air conditioner was awesome ! pillows and bed extremely comfortable which normally in hotels this kind it’s a hit or miss.
Absolute gem of a hotel and never stay anywhere else when visiting Colchester.
Central location, stunning old building with a few modern twists, luxury stay but homely. Staff amazing and good/drinks just amazing. That French onion soup….wow.
Very helpful staff. Helped to use the check in machine at the doors. As we were checking out early in the morning, they even cooked breakfast earlier than they supposed to. Breakfast was very delicious. Free parking for hotel guests.
The hotel was in an excellent place right in the middle of the town. Plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. The room we had was very large. The bed was so comfortable. Heating was left at the right temperature.
The location of the place.
Loved the building too
and the beds and room, loved that we had out own door to the main road so we didn't have to walk to the reception as we were round the back of the hotel.
We stayed for our son’s graduation. This hotel is perfectly located for this event. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a busy week for the hotel but it was always quiet and peaceful.
Ideally situated in the centre of Colchester. Very comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff. Complimentary continental breakfast and lovely patio area at the back of the hotel
Quiet, pleasant location convenient for Colchester and for touring Essex and Suffolk.
Staff were pleasant and helpful but hotel is clearly understaffed
The hotel is in a fabulous location for exploring Colchester Lovely comfortable rooms & great food, albeit slightly expensive. Will definitely be back.
