Large and modern areas, and was nice and warm. Bed was comfortable too, and the property was central to everything… with only a 2min walk to the Civic Theatre, it was perfect for our dash in the rain.

We loved the incredibly super friendly staff, the location, the facilities & the pizzas at the pub are out of this world!!
Only negative thing was the toaster in the shared kitchen not working but apart from that, we loved it all.
We will definitely return on our next trip to Newcastle.

Newcastle was and still is a city based on heavy industry.
Newcastle was and still is a city based on heavy industry. Much of that has gone or changed and the city is busy reshaping itself. The city beaches are wonderful to walk on, lots of surfing etc. Their are also the details of the refurbishment of the Newcastle Ocean Baths to admire - amazing. I was there for a week in very cold weather. Still, the city is sunny, the new Light Rail is excellent for CBD transport and there are very good cafes, for example in Darby Street where you can escape the coastal winds.

I live in Sydney, just 160 km / 100 miles to the South, so not exactly a traveller. Newcastle is a nice place, less frantic than Sydney. It has great beaches, lots of places to dine out suiting all budgets, a very pleasant foreshore area.

Newie has come along in leaps and bounds since my childhood in the city. The downtown area has been completely rejuvenated and has a great, hipster vibe to it that was sorely lacking in the past.
The best beaches in Australia, the best rugby league and A-League team, and world-class wineries on your back step.

As we were stuck in Newcastle and in the hospital for the majority of the three weeks we were there, I couldn't get out quick enough....but in the time that I did have spare to look around, if you get away from the industrial areas, there are many areas around the beach in Newcastle that are beautiful. If you get out towards the Hunter Valley, Warner's Bay or Nelson Bay even better.

Newcastle is a busy port on one side and a beach holiday paradise on the other. There are several points of interest, such as the fort and the lighthouse. Good walking for the fit.
From the transport interchange, there is a useful, very regular, tram (bright red) out to points along the way to these sights. Tap on tap off with your credit card, if you don’t have the local Oyster Card. We found Rydges cafe and Queens Wharf good places to take refreshment whilst watching the ships passing to pick up coal. Newcastle is the largest coal exporting port in the world and watching them move with tugs in attendance is quite relaxing while you enjoy a drink.
The museum gives a good overview of Newcastle’s development, without being too exhaustive. Entrance is free. Give it a go, as it’s next to the Information Centre who are very helpful.
From Queens Wharf there is a short ferry across to Stockton, a small town with a good view of the harbour and shipping from its local park. Take your water and sun hat but toilets are a bit thin on the ground.
I would have liked more time to explore and take photographs. Enough said!

Newcastle was great for a visit and not just because family live there. Great vibe, many cafes and shops, really nice to stroll around the town and get a feel for the place. The river waterfront was really pleasant after a hot day.
Location was excellent - in the centre of the city. The unit overlooks the old Newcastle railway station with a 180 degree view of the river from Fort Scatchley to the Victoria wharf and beyond. It was great to see the many ships arriving and leaving. The room was very large and well appointed, catering for a long stay if required. The underground parking was a bonus as the car was securely parked for our stay. The reception staf were very welcoming and happy to do anything for us. I would definitely stay there again.
It is near the university and surrounding suburbs which was excellent (came to Newcastle to look for accommodation for our son). Beds were very comfortable. Very good value for a fully contained unit.
There is a takeaway for breakfast about 850m away.
Maybe some cushions on the sofa will make it perfect.
Two toilets with showers upstairs and one toilet in the laundry
close to the venue we were attending for a family birthday (other guests stayed too as I recommended it being close) also near to station. we thought Hamilton was a great “buzzy” town with great diversity of eating places. We will definitely stay again as two of our grandchildren are now at Newcastle Uni. We appreciated the on site parking.
Located opposite the station only two stops to get to Newcastle interchange and about a 10minute walk to supermarkets and restaurants. The cleaners were very friendly and was handy having a fridge/freezer, microwave and kettle in the hotel room. Is a cheap and perfect stop for a month or less.
Our room was great, very clean and comfortable, perfect for an overnight or short stay. The hotel has lovely modern decor, although it is older style. The parking is a bit of a tight squeeze but still very convenient. Breakfast was good.
The Clarendon is right in the heart of Newcastle. Right near the river so you can jump on a pathway and go for a morning jog or walk. The rooms are spacious and it was like a little apartment rather than a hotel room.
The hotel is just so awesome! It's stylish, fresh and contemporary. The room decor is absolutely stunning. The bed was really comfortable and breakfast was super delicious and good value.
Great hotel for my work trip. Spacious & comfortable room with an outlook onto bushland. Had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant, food very good. Staff professional and friendly.
Everything. Very hipster, cool, 3 mins walk to Newcastle interchange and the water, cafes. Excellent hotel. It’s so chic and gorgeous. The bar is great and library area too.
The staff and facilities at Rydges Newcastle was great. The room overlooking the Garvour was spacious and very comfortable. Hotel was very clean.
Would definitely stay again.
Good value for Newcastle city motel
Very well organised before and during stay
Location close to centre.
Unit was v clean and contained all we needed for our 3 night stay
Very spacious unit with all needs for our short stay. Will come back on next visit. Very comfy bed and sofas, located very well to restaurants, cafes and hotels.
The hotel position is near local sights and has a great view of the beach. The bathroom was a good size. Other parts overlook the docks, also a great view.
